Amazon.com Product Description
Motion-activated lights are convenient and energy efficient, but they can be a little bulky and awkward to look at-in the driveway is fine, but you wouldn't want to put one on your porch. Unless it's one of Heath Zenith's porch lights, that is. These products give you the best of both worlds, combining motion-activation and traditional porch-light design.

The SL-4197 is an eight-sided wall-mount lantern that includes a hidden motion-sensing device. This device will detect movement in a 180-degree radius up to a distance of 30 feet. You can set the light timer to one, five, or ten minutes, and the sensor itself may be adjusted to give you more or less sensitivity (so it doesn't light up every time a car drives by). The weather-resistant aluminum construction means it's going to look good for a while, too.

This model also features "Dual Brite" lighting, which means you can use it for low-level accent lighting in addition to the full-light effect you get with motion-activation. An included timer allows you to set low-light mode for three hours, six hours, or dusk to dawn (an automatic photocell deactivates the unit in daylight). You can also turn the light on and off at will via the manual override that mounts to an existing indoor switch.

If you're looking to save a little money on lighting your porch by installing a motion-detector, this is a great option that won't look out of place. Requires three candelabra bulbs of up to 60 watts each (not included). --Josh Dettweiler

5 out of 5 stars works great   March 15, 2008

I have this light (3 of them) all worked great.. save money by not only having lights on auto (dusk to dawn) but you can select how long it stays on (ie not all night) i have mine set to stay on 6 hours. But in addition, it can be set to only go half wattage at dark, add MOTION and it will go to full wattage.. mine work great. Even if i breaks in 2 years i will just buy more.. I hope they still are for sale then... i realy love these lights.. and with the power saving features.. i think Al Gore would like them to HA HA HA>

Ih replaced these lights 3 times over the last 6 years. I like the style, the motion sensor and the 2 light levels this light provides. However the electronics in these lights have failed on 3 seperate occasions.

1 out of 5 stars Looks good, but they seem to have a flaw in the design   February 7, 2008

I ordered this to repalce another light and it was the same light!! (previous 1 was purchased at Home Depot I think) Anyway the previous 1 worked for less than 2 years. This 1 worked for a month!! I had read reviews on other Home Depot lights and this must be 1 they are referring to. After 1 bulb burns out, the dusk to dawn and the motion sensor no longer work (after the bulb is replaced) So, you are left with a nice looking light that you have to manually turn off and on- or leave it on night and day..... Fortunately, I was able to return this 1 to Amazon (Thank goodness for the Christmas extended warranty!) and will have to start on a new search to replace this 1. I contacted Zenith about the 1st 1 because they supposedly have a 5 year warranty and of course need the original receipt so they don't really stand behind their products in my opinion. Who keeps a light receipt for 5 years for goodness sake??? (or in my case 2 years......) I also noticed when I took this 1 down that the siding on my house has some small burned areas, so I don't know it the crazy thing sparked all over or what. I would avoid it regardless.
